"Cynic video visited Radio Bean for Soul Night held every Thursday evening. We caught up with Kat Wright, the lead singer of Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band and experienced everything that Soul Night has to offer."

"An indomitably soulful sound"
"If the Indomitable Soul Band doesn’t go big — and I mean, really big — within the next few years, there’s probably something wrong with the universe."
"The name says it all. Fronted by singer Kat Wright, this 9-piece soul band will blow you away any day of the week. Influences of both jazz standards and old time folk can be found in Kat’s ultimately bluesy voice..."
In just over a year, Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band have grown from the Thursday-night secret of Radio Bean regulars into one of the most dynamic and talked-about live acts in Burlington. Fresh off a searing NYE run at Higher Ground with indie-dance-pop phenoms Rubblebucket, the classic soul and R&B ensemble headline Nectar’s on Saturday, January 12, with opening support from Justin Levinson & the Valcours and Joe Adler & His Sonic Rhetorician.
Video Premiere- Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
"It’s no secret ArtsRiot digs Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band. And now, after seeing their brand spankin’ new music video for the original song “All About You,” we dig ‘em even more...The collaboration with Burlington-based Wondermind Pictures is a perfect encapsulation of the band. Displaying the many layers that create the Indomitable Soul sound, director Matt Day captures each band member demonstrating a combination of eyes-closed concentration and fluid effortlessness as they perform. With an intimate view of the horn section’s perfectly timed notes, movement of fingertips along keys and frets, and, of course, Kat’s heartfelt singing, the video reminds us why the Radio Bean is packed with fans thirsty for soul music each Thursday evening..."
"Thanks in part to their always packed Thursday sessions at Radio Bean, Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band have become one of the most electric live acts in town. It may also be because Wright is a flat-out soul dynamo. Friday, the band brings the party from the Bean to the streets — specifically, the top block of Church Street, where BDJF unofficially kicks off its final weekend. "
"The best — whether it was the singing of Bonnie Raitt, Dianne Reeves or Kat Wright, the musicianship of Vijay Iyer or Christian McBride or the explosions of energy from the Jonathan Batiste Quintet, Moon Hooch or Trombone Shorty — were sublime."

Feast of Music - A Journey thru the music of New York, and occasionally other places
Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band @ The Radio Bean in Burlington, Vermont.
BURLINGTON, Vermont - Last week, I returned to my former home of six years, where I had the pleasure of catching Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band (I.S.B.) at The Radio Bean last Thursday night. The Radio Bean has long been celebrated as Burlington's eclectic anti-venue, the joint that offers some of the city's best live music in a friendly, relaxed environment.
When Ms. Wright, a native of Rochester, NY, moved to Burlington a few years ago for a change of scenery, she surrounded herself with some of northern New England's finest players, including musicians from nationally touring acts including The Trey Anastasio Band, Strength in Numbers, and The Jake Whitesell Quartet. Since December 2010, the I.S.B. band has held the coveted Thursday night set at the Bean, matching soul classics with original compositions - no easy task with nine musicians living nine separate lives.
The setlist last week included tunes by Curtis Mayfield, Hall and Oates, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and more. "These are the songs from my childhood," Wright told me. "I grew up listening to soul."
Through both visual and aural communication, the I.S.B. navigated the curvaceous material, full of peaks and valleys and stragecially placed breakdowns. Although the horn section and the Rhodes were mixed way too high relative to the vocals, Ms. Wright's stage presence and spirited delivery shone through and embodied the essence of soul: strong, independent, intelligent, and sexy.
Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band is a soul band. They do what they do, and they do it well. If you even happen to find yourself in Burlington on a Thusday night, go check them out.

Musicians' Summit mixes local talent
The Vermont Cynic - The University of Vermont's Independent voice since 1883
The first annual Vermont Musicians' Summit took place at Higher Ground on Saturday, Jan. 14. The summit consisted of a discussion about the local music community followed by an all-star concert. Joe Adler, Jim Lockridge of Big Heavy World and Justin Hoy of Halogen Media Works were the key organizers of the event.
Indubitably indomitable. The Burlington, VT area Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band create music that has something in common with their name. Size. Their sound is so big and emotionally charged that it floods the room and practically overflows out the venue doors, leaving in it’s wake an audience that’s bobbing and dancing to the groove.
The secret behind this big, soulful sound? It starts with Kat Wright’s vocals. Powerful, gritty and capable of expressing subtle, delicate emotions– Kat was born to sing blues and soul music. And behind her, or rather completely surrounding her, is a lineup that features bass, drums, percussion, guitar, organ, trumpet, trombone and alto sax. At their upcoming Nor’easter performance you may hear some soulful, grooving renditions of Frankie Valli, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Stevie Wonder.
"You know who else is the real deal? Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band. After GPN Friday, I caught their set at what will likely be the last Full Moon Masquerade at Parima. If you haven’t seen the band at its Thursday-night Radio Bean residency, do it. Like, now. The band is stellar, and Wright is one of the most captivating vocalists this town has seen in years."

"...ISB’s Thursday-night residency at the Bean is just about the hottest thing going in the Queen City right now. The band is crazy tight, and Wright reincarnated as a soul singer is nothing short of stunning. If you like her stuff with her band Loveful Heights, wait until you get a load of this. Trust me."
